Alicia Skillin began working at Sheepscot Valley Children’s House in September 2016 as an assistant teacher in the toddler room. After graduating from University of Southern Maine, Alicia went on to earn her Infant/Toddler Montessori certification at the Montessori Institute-New England. Prior to joining SVCH she worked at Winfield Children’s House, Meadowbrook Montessori and Cricket Hunt School.
Alicia lives in Richmond with her husband and two children, Owen and Lucas. They love doing things as a family and with friends. They have lots of fun camping during the summer, spending time at the beach and afternoon playground play dates.
Audrey joined Sheepscot Valley Children’s House in 1996 as an assistant preschool teacher. Over the years she has assumed increasing levels of responsibility of the school and is currently the Director. You will often find Audrey in the infant/toddler room as well; she and Kristy Orr started the program in 2014. While attending the University of Maine she completed the Social Services program with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. In 2008 she earned her Certification in Montessori Preschool Education. Prior to working at SVCH she spent four years as a developmental therapist, assisting children with special needs.
Audrey and her husband, Phil, have two grown children, Crystal and Tony, and reside in Wiscasset. They enjoy spending time on Sebago Lake in the summer, working in their apple orchard and being with family and friends.
Dawn Garey will be joining the staff at SVCH in early January as a part time assistant. Dawn attended the Edgecomb Eddy School, Wiscasset Middle School , and Lincoln Academy. She went on to Saint Joseph's College where she majored in Elementary Education and later earned a Literacy Certificate from the University of Maine.
In 1974 Dawn began her teaching career at the Edgecomb Eddy School as the Kindergarten teacher. For the next 42 years Dawn taught Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2, and Title I. She often taught a combination of these positions depending on population and student need. Dawn retired in June 2019 as the Kindergarten teacher coming full circle to her original position. During her career Dawn was honored as Lincoln County Teacher of the Year. She served on many committees and worked with many wonderful people, parents and students. Dawn inspired many children to join the Garden Club and make outdoor education a part of her curriculum.
Dawn and her husband live in Edgecomb. They enjoy spending as much time as they can with their two grown children and their families which include five grandchildren.
Janet McCormick joined the Sheepscot Valley family in 2003 as a teacher’s assistant in a school to work program. After graduating from Wiscasset High school she went on to graduate from the University of Southern Maine where she studied Nursing and Deaf Studies. Janet has been a Certified Nurse’s Assistant since 2004 and loves working and caring for people of all ages. It is that love for people and especially children that kept her connected with SVCH throughout the years, working the summer program, substituting and assisting wherever there was a need.
Janet and her husband, Kyle, reside in Alna with their daughter Ruby. They enjoy spending time with family and friends and volunteering together in the community.
Kate is new to SVCH and will be working in the infant room. She moved to Bath in early 2018 from Charleston, SC where she worked at a Montessori school and was the lead teacher in the infant/toddler classroom. Here, she also trained with the Seacoast Center for Montessori Teacher Education in their birth-3 pilot program. During her first year in Maine, Kate was the co-lead teacher of the young preschool classroom at The Children's Schoolhouse in Bath.
Kate and her fiance, Chris York have one daughter named Harper. The family has just purchased a home in Woolwich and they are looking forward to creating a space where they can use the land and work toward living a more self-sufficient lifestyle. She hopes to carry this idea of environmental awareness into the classroom and use her position as an educator to show young children how to be an advocate for the natural world.
Krista George joined Sheepscot Valley Children’s House in 2017 as Administrative Assistant. You’ll often hear her friendly voice on the other side of the phone when calling SVCH. Krista provides support in the office operations, assisting with enrollment, tours, and anything else that comes along! Before joining SVCH, Krista worked the past five years in fiscal management for a non-profit healthcare organization and prior to that owned and operated her own business as a Licensed Aesthetician. She studied Business Administration at University of Maine at Augusta and holds CRMA and PSS certifications.
Krista and her husband, Tom, reside in Alna with their son Dominick. In her free time, she enjoys making jewelry, raising their backyard chickens, and spending time with family and friends.
Miss Kristy has been part of the SVCH family since 2006, where she was the kindergarten assistant teacher for six years and then assisted in the preschool classroom. In 2014 she helped launch the infant/toddler program. Born in Massachusetts, Kristy moved to Maine at age 5 and attended Bath schools and went on to the University of Maine in Orono. She worked at the Child Development Center at the Brunswick Naval Air Station for seven years prior to starting a family, when she left the work force to stay home with her kids. She and her husband and have two children, Kennedy and Dylan, both who attended SVCH. She lives in Wiscasset, and enjoys cooking, watching her children play sports, going to the beach and spending time with friends and family.
